Research area:
benthic ecology, with special reference to the effect of natural factors and anthropogenic pressures on benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages in coastal marine and lagoon systems;
development of indicators of ecological and environmental status in application to the European Directives (WFD; 2006/60/EC and MSFD; 2008/56);
food webs studies (δ13C, δ15N analysis), including the effect of invasive species on benthic–pelagic coupling;
biogeochemical processes, including the effect of bioturbation of benthic macroinvertebrates on oxygen and nutrient fluxes;
biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Membership in editorial boards, publishing associations, scientific communities, and other organizations:
associate editor – scientific journal Frontiers in Marine Science.
