Abstract

A remarkable person and brilliant ichthyologist, Lidiya Sergeevna Oven, passed away In January 2021. She made a significant contribution to ichthyology, especially to the study of fish reproductive biology, having actually laid and developed the methodological foundations for studying the features of oogenesis and the nature of reproduction of portion-spawning marine fish. Her human and personal qualities seem no less important to us. We, former graduate students of Lidiya Sergeevna, would like to honor her memory with this informal obituary. Both authors were graduate students in difficult times - in the first half of the 1990s, when the decision to become scientists was not trivial in itself. Lidiya Sergeevna supervised our first steps in science, taught us to independently analyze the biological processes being studied, and her contribution to our formation as research scientists is invaluable.
