Abstract

A. O. Kovalevsky Institute of Marine Biological Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences suffered an irreparable loss: on September 27, 2018, Sergey Borisovich Gulin, the director of the Institute, passed away. The main areas of his research were related to the study of radioactive contamination of the marine environment after a nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and of the development of radiochemical and radio-trace methods for determining the biogeochemical characteristics of ecosystems.
